What is a window sticker?

A window sticker — properly a Monroney label — is the price sheet federally required on every new car sold in the United States since the Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958. It lists the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, each factory option and what it cost, the destination charge, EPA fuel economy estimates, government crash-test ratings, and where the vehicle and its major components were built.

It is the single most useful document about a car, and it stays tied to the VIN long after the sticker itself is peeled off the glass. If you are buying used, it tells you exactly how the car left the factory — which trim, which packages, what it originally cost. Sellers use it to prove what they have.

Which vehicles work

Manufacturers publish these labels themselves, and not all of them do it publicly. Right now this site returns original factory stickers for 12 makes: Alfa romeo, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Gmc, Jeep, Lincoln, Ram.
